Overtones Sax Quartet

5.00pm, Thursday 5 August 2010, Piazza Signorelli

The Overtones Sax Quartet came to life in 2006 as a natural result of a long friendship, as well as of continuous collaborations and experiences lived together.
All members attended the Conservatory when the course in saxophone still had no regular diploma.  In fact, three of the members have a degree in clarinet but their passion for the saxophone has always guided their musical journey and encouraged their close collaboration. The versatility of this instrument led them to deepen their knowledge of it.  Practicing both jazz and classical music has provided them with an expressive technique and timbre ranging from the gentle sound of French classical school to a more powerfully driven sound of American culture and phrasing of jazz language. All members have attended courses in jazz at the C.A.M. in Florence, Umbria Jazz and Siena Jazz.  They performed with Paolo Birro, Ettore Bonafè, Riccardo Galardini, Gianni Basso, Tino Tracanna, Marco Tamburini, Dario Cecchini, Ettore Fioravanti, Paolo Fresu, Samuele Garofoli, Pietro Tonolo, Daniele Malvisi and Mario Raja, among others. The current ensemble is the result of a continuous line-up born in 1991, which eventually became the Overtones Sax Quartet.
